How Are Popcorn Ceilings Removed?
If a popcorn ceiling has not been painted, the process is fairly straightforward. First, the ceiling is saturated with water, which helps the popcorn texture be easy to scrape off. If the ceiling has been painted, then the paint has to be stripped first or the water won’t be able to help separate the popcorn texture from the ceiling itself.
We use a special paint stripper designed for popcorn ceilings. This stripper is brushed or rolled on to the surface of the ceiling and is designed not to drip away. We had Painter1 repaint our accent wall and the adjacent walls and baseboards. Their customer service was impeccable and Jon, the owner, was on time, followed up, and very respectful. Painter 1 was a wonderful find. Our job was for an interior trim and door painting job and our back and forth communication to outline just the right scope of services was handled very professionally. Jon the owner walked the site with me before the start of work and then we had Victor do most of the painting. Victor was very polite, professional, and clean as he prepped the job, painted, and cleaned after. The only surprise that I felt occurred was the proposed two-day job ended up taking a solid four days to complete. However, the work was done very carefully and I did not want to rush the painting job. The good news is that the work is estimated as a flat fee, it is not estimated on an hourly basis, and i was pretty flexible with our schedule.
